The new Pursuit OS 405 raises the bar on the long-popular OS 385 it supersedes in many ways. It starts with an all-new hull with 20 degrees of transom deadrise for soft running offshore (the OS in the name). Upping the ante from triple Yamaha 300s to triple Yamaha 450 XTO outboards, the OS 405 hits 55-plus mph, and cruises for 317 miles at 28-plus mph, sipping just 39 gph.

Under the OS 405’s extended hardtop are two rows of seats behind the large-pane windshield. Impressively engineered, the hardtop boasts two hatches for air and light, plus provisions for Rupp outrigger controls. From a Stidd seat, the captain views twin Garmin 22-inch multifunction displays, Zipwake trim control, a bow thruster and a Yamaha Helm Master joystick. The Stidd companion seat rotates to face the standard table and L-shaped lounge, which converts to a berth.

The cockpit, lined by rod holders, delights anglers with a 75-gallon refrigerated fish box, 50-gallon livewell, insulated deck lockers, and a bait-prep area with a sink and stowage. Two aft-facing seats plus a fold-down transom seat add all-day comfort, and a midcockpit galley handles alfresco meals with a grill. A custom-tuned JL Audio stereo system provides Hi-Fi audio. All cockpit seats feature Dri-Fast foam and mesh backing to ensure dry comfort. Forward, enjoy the padded chaise-style lounges with adjustable backrests. Take our advice and order the optional sunshade.

Belowdecks, find a Memory Foam queen berth forward that folds into a salon lounge electrically. The enclosed head features a separate stall shower, and the midcabin (with door) features a full-size bed. The galley houses a two-burner cooktop, two-drawer fridge and a microwave.

Adding to the comfort underway, the standard Seakeeper 6 gyrostabilizer keeps the OS 405 stable at rest and underway, while the Fischer-Panda 9 kW generator keeps the blender running from a separate 31-gallon diesel fuel tank. The Pursuit Protection Plan includes a five-year hull and deck warranty, and five-year blister-free warranty. This boat’s got you covered.

The Freedom 345’s hardtop, Grady’s trademarked AV² enclosure, sports a tall windshield and attractive support pillars that enhance its Carolina lines. A SureShade electrically retractable cockpit shade and Clear²Sea side curtains are other features of the AV² enclosure.

In the tremendous cockpit, we commended boarding doors and fuel fills on both sides. We also applauded the entertainment station with its grill, refrigerator, sink and storage, all paired with a wraparound companion seat served by an electrically adjustable table. Add the cushion to convert to dual forward-facing loungers. Forward, seating in the bow, as throughout the boat, features indirect LED lighting, luxurious upholstery, and both USB and USB-C charging ports.

Inside the starboard console, find a shower, sink, skylight and a freshwater VacuFlush head. Inside the port console, we liked the electromechanically operated berth, bench seat, flat-screen TV, microwave and skylight. Both console cabins featured designer details, such as tiled backsplashes and cabinetry with fluted inlays. The standard diesel generator keeps the air conditioning flowing in these spaces, and headroom is generous.

At the elevated helm sit dual Command Elite helm chairs with ergonomic access to electronics and accessory controls, including air conditioning to keep the area cool.

The options list is short and starts with choosing twin 450 or triple 350 Yamahas. The Seakeeper stabilizer is a no-brainer, and if you fish, the outriggers, underwater lighting, and aft refrigerator/freezer/fish box with digital thermostat are a must.

2025 Cobia 285 CC https://www.boatingmag.com/boats/2025-cobia-285-cc-bbg/ Mon, 23 Dec 2024 16:43:34 +0000 https://www.boatingmag.com/?p=94856 Th 285 CC is a hardcore fisher that can also handle your crew for towing water toys all day, visiting the sandbar, or just zooming around.

Cobia’s 285 CC scores big on both  fishing and comfort. Fishability is obvious at a glance, with raw- and freshwater washdowns, rod holders, rocket launchers on the hardtop and behind the helm seats, rod racks and even kite rod holders. Trust me, you’re going to need to buy more fishing rods to fill them all.

But it can also handle your crew for  towing water toys all day, visiting the sandbar, or just zooming around. And the 285 CC does zoom, topping out at an eye-watering 61.9 mph with twin Yamaha 350s.

Cobia 285 CC helm
There are twin 16-inch Garmin monitors at the helm. Courtesy Cobia Boats

The 285 CC offers many seating choices, from the wraparound backrest bowriders to the fold-down transom bench that Aunt Edna likes, which disappears—the seat, not Aunt Edna—to create a 101-square-foot angler’s cockpit. The helm seats behind the twin 16-inch Garmin monitors are so comfy, you won’t want to stand. And in what appears to be a compact console is a forward-opening (no scrunching) enclosed head with a standard electric toilet plus a sink, for space to change out of a wet swimsuit.

Cobia has a reputation for fishing, and the 285 CC sports details such as an oval 43-gallon livewell (so your bait won’t bonk their noses), a full tackle station, and a forward table that converts to a casting station.

Cobia 285 CC forward console seating
Plush seating is found throughout. Courtesy Cobia Boats

You’ll love the 285 CC offshore. Its 21-degree transom deadrise tames the chop, full-length strakes provide lift and straight tracking, and Carolina bow flare casts spray aside. Construction uses Cobia’s  proprietary VARIS resin infusion system, which morphs the hull and inner grid into a rock-solid foam-cored unit.

Cobia 285 CC hardtop
The 285 CC is packed with fishing features. Courtesy Cobia Boats

Cobia uses more than 60 years of boatbuilding experience to include thoughtful touches too. For example, the fish box is part cooler and easily reached through the cockpit side door when grabbing drinks at a sandbar. Another 57-quart cooler is forward for the bow gang. And there are twin fuel fills, so you’re never on the wrong side at the gas dock.

Yep, you can describe the Cobia 285 CC as very comfortable and a great fishing boat. No one’s going to contradict you.

Cobia 285 CC outboards
With twin 350 Yamaha outboards, cruising speed is 28-plus mph and range is 455-plus miles. Courtesy Cobia Boats

High Points

  • VARIS proprietary resin infusion construction results in the highest strength-to-weight ratio in Cobia hulls and, ultimately, higher performance.
  • Family-friendly electric head and sink.
  • Inward-hinged cockpit side door makes dockside or in-water boarding of swimmers and landing fish easy.
  • Multiple options for the helm seats include tackle center and sliding cooler.
  • Bow table can be lowered flush, raised for munchies, or become a casting platform.
  • With twin 350 Yamaha outboards, cruising speed is 28-plus mph and range is 455-plus miles.

The Flagship of Crownline’s XSS series of sporty dayboats, the new 330 XSS stands out in a crowd, and its amenity-laden interior is sure to please.

Before diving into the creature comforts, just looking at the sculpted hull design will show you that the 330 XSS is meant for performance. It starts underneath the water with Crownline’s patented F.A.S.T. Tab hull design. Spelled out, that stands for Fin-Assisted Safe Turn. Crownline deploys vented chines about two-thirds of the way aft to provide ventilation to the running surface, decreasing drag and improving efficiency. Crownline also extended the outer lifting strakes along the running surface back to the transom along with a Delta pad, providing additional lift out of the hole while decreasing bow rise. Vortex generators help curb low-speed wander. All this combined with the 330 XSS’s steep 23 degrees of transom deadrise help it carve through the water safely and efficiently. Paired with the standard twin white Mercury 350 Verados, the 330 XSS is capable of speeds over 60 mph.

The 330 XSS has a spacious cockpit with doublewide seats for the helm and portside console. Aft, the rear-facing backrests allow crewmembers to kick back, while the padded gunwales create opposing lounges for more to sit and form a conversation pit. The versatile seating doesn’t stop there, with lounges with electrically adjustable backrests to both sides of the transom walk-through. The captain has a great view from the helm, which features twin flush-mounted 12-inch Garmin touchscreen multifunction displays. The standard joystick steering system comes in handy at the fuel dock or while navigating through crowded marinas.

The spacious bow features wraparound U seating with forward-facing backrests abutting the dual consoles. The portside console hides a head that features an electric-flush toilet. The long list of standards includes a windlass, trim tabs, and a Wet Sounds stereo system with eight speakers. Fast, fun and versatile—the Crownline 330 XSS checks all the boxes you’d want in a large, luxurious dayboat.

Standard joystick steering provides 360-degree turning capability. Courtesy Crownline Boats

Crownline has been building high-quality bowriders for decades, and the all-new outboard-powered 310 XSS takes that tradition to the next generation, providing a sporty and stable platform for a family or group of friends to enjoy a great day on the water.

With Crownline, everything starts with the builder’s patented F.A.S.T. Tab hull design. The “FAST” acronym stands for Fin-Assisted Safe Turn. This running surface combines a Delta pad at the transom with extended outer lifting strakes, vortex generators to quell the turbulence that leads to “stern wander” at idle speeds, and vented chines that provide ventilation to the running surface, reducing the friction caused by flowing water. The hull design helps the 310 XSS track straight while idling out, quickly hop on plane, and retain stability in hard turns at speed. The 310 comes standard with a pair of white Mercury 300 Verados, but can be equipped with twin 250s or even up to 350s. With the standard 600 hp on the transom, Crownline reports top speeds exceeding 60 mph.

Crownline 310 XSS helm

At the dock, the 310 XSS flashes the looks to match its reported performance. The curved sheerline highlights the molded-in accents that give the 310 a sports-car feel. The arched aluminum hardtop only adds to the curb appeal while providing shade for passengers in the cockpit. The cockpit’s layout invites lazy lounging or serious socializing. Twin doublewide benches with flip-up armrests and bolsters adorn the helm and the portside console. The helm holds two flush-mounted 12-inch Garmin multifunction displays. The aft sun lounges feature electrically actuated adjustable backrests. The bow lounge offers plenty more seating for socializing. All the seats hide storage compartments to hold all the gear you need for a day on the water. The standard head compartment is large enough to serve as a changing room and includes an electric-flush head plus a vanity with a marble countertop and sink.

Whether you want to go full throttle or leisurely cruise, the Crownline 310 is built to make for a fun day on the water.

The SunCatcher Select 324 RC, one of the company’s most popular models, has been completely redesigned for 2021 to make it even more appealing to pontoon lovers. Where to start? The new fence design gives the Select 324 RC a stylish look at the dock, with two-tone graphics that come in five different color combinations. SunCatcher also upgraded the boat’s interior with a new, more comfortable and durable seat foam and some exciting vinyl color choices. Choose between a tan or gray interior and an array of accent colors such as Carbon, Ultra Red, Daytona Blue, Mediterranean and Mocha.

The couches in both the forward and aft lounges are symmetrical, and feature forward-facing backrests up front and rear-facing aft. The roto-molded plastic seat bases house enough storage space to swallow all of your gear and keep it dry too. The new couch storage system allows you to choose from a trash can, drawer storage, tackle storage, foldout table or privacy enclosure. The list is there for you to customize your boat to fit the way you want to use it.

Besides constructing the standard 25-inch aluminum tubes and chassis, Bentley Pontoons makes all of its own components in its plant in Lexington, South Carolina. This includes doing in-house powder-coating, as well as making the furniture and canvas mooring covers. The commitment to quality build shows up in Bentley’s new 223 Bentley Navigator, a well-appointed triple-tube pontoon that looks great on the lake with a full crew aboard. And by full crew, we mean a 15-person capacity.

Bentley Pontoons 223 Bentley Navigator bow seating
The bow is equipped with curved matching “lay-back” couches. Courtesy Bentley Pontoons

The layout is sure to serve the needs of your crew, with curved matching “lay-back” couches in the bow area, with forward-facing backrests in front of the consoles. The plush captain’s chair at the helm is matched by a co-captain’s chair to port, complete with the same cup-holder stand that houses two cup holders per side. The black inset dash at the helm is both pleasing to the eye and functional in that it cuts down on glare, allowing a better viewing of the gauges. Both chairs can swivel to face inward and join the fun at rest, and both have flip-up armrests. The aft seating also features matching lay-back couches with molded-in storage in the seat bases. The seagrass matt flooring is durable and easy to clean, as well as comfortable underfoot. It’s a layout that encourages conversation, entertainment and enjoyment on the water.

Other nice touches include the radiused corners that feature engraved Bentley nameplates that up the style factor, twin recessed cup holders in all the couches that make sure no one is too far from a refreshment, and ample room to stand on the extended bow and stern platforms.

The specs and photos show the 223 Bentley Navigator with its full 25-inch-tube package. Bentley also offers this model in a 3/4-tube version, which still can hold 15 people but lowers the maximum horsepower rating to 200, and decreases the fuel capacity from 54 gallons to 32 gallons. No matter which model you decide to make your own, the 223 Bentley Navigator will perform well on the water—and carry a big load while doing it.

If you’re truly looking for a pontoon boat that can turn heads on the water yet entertain a crew at the same time, the Vogue 25 RL with the optional Sport Ice Edition is just the ticket. It’s a stylish craft with excellent performance attributes and an updated layout.

With the Sport Ice Edition, you get the plush white and charcoal vinyl interior, and the red accents are stunning. There are four exterior color combinations from which to choose, including red.

In the bow, Princecraft shows off a set of roomy and comfy U-shaped furniture. Each side of the U-lounge features a recess that features two cup holders and USB ports. A handy trash receptacle hides under the forward-facing backrest on the starboard console. You know what’s cool? The dinette table has fold-down leaves, so when the full table is not needed, you don’t have to stow it to create more open space. The four cup holders on top are still accessible.

Moving aft, Princecraft also updated the elevated helm console for 2021, with an ergonomic design that features more-sophisticated push-button rocker switches, and a wireless cellphone charger that secures your phone in place.

The RL in the name stands for “rear lounge,” and Princecraft went above and beyond to make it adjustable and versatile. It can be rearranged in five different positions, from rear- or forward-facing seats to forward- or rear-facing reclining lounges to a full-on sun pad.

If you’re into watersports, the optional power tower sport arch is a great addition; it raises and lowers with a turn of a key. For 2021, Princecraft extended the aft swim platform by 6 inches, providing space for watersports as it wraps around the outboard motorwell. The stainless-steel tow bar is great for towing skiers and doubles as a handhold when traversing the platform. A four-step telescoping swim ladder is set to starboard.

When paired up with a 300 hp Mercury, this boat can really move on the water, and its triple-tube performance package provides smooth handling and the ability to take on a sporty lake chop. Add it all up, and you get a boat that does it all.
